Brunswick Breaking Bad

Posted: Updated:
New Brunswick, New Jersey (My9NJ) - Things are getting out of control in New Brunswick right now. Chief Housing Inspector Michael Mahony was recently caught in a cocaine bust. Editor of New Brunswick Today, Charlie Kratovil, discussed the details surrounding this long term investigation and the nine individuals who were charged with cocaine possession during this bust.

“State police picked him up Thursday morning. He was held in jail on $150,000 bail, he’s out now, but they found 10 ounces of cocaine and the police aren’t saying where they found it, but they did execute a search warrant on the Elks lodge, he was the treasure of the Elks and they are of course known for their strong anti-drug stance, so this is a really embarrassing thing for the administration,” he said.

10 ounces of cocaine costs about $20,000 and has a street value of anywhere from 5 to 10 times that amount.

Mahony has been suspended from his duties without pay. He has been with the city since 1994.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
