Cirque Du Soleil Returns With 'Totem'

Posted: Updated:

The latest tour from the fascinating visual team of Cirque Du Soleil comes 'Totem', a journey through the evolution of mankind, and it's currently performing under its trademark blue-and-yellow big top in Southern California.

Due to strong demand, two weeks of performances have been added to the Santa Monica engagement of TOTEM, now through February 23, 2014. Tickets for all Southern California performances of TOTEM are available online at www.cirquedusoleil.com/totem

Since its World Premiere in 2010, more than 2 million people worldwide have been mesmerized by the intimacy and beauty of TOTEM, winner of the 2013 Drama Desk Awards for Outstanding Unique Theatrical Experience. Featuring a cast of 46 acrobats, actors, musicians and singers, TOTEM is an uplifting array of athleticism, comedy, heartfelt emotions and surprising visual effects.

Written and directed by world-renown multidisciplinary artist Robert Lepage, TOTEM traces the fascinating journey of the human species from its original amphibian state to its ultimate desire to fly. The characters evolve on a stage evoking a giant turtle, the symbol of origin for many ancient civilizations.

Inspired by many founding myths, TOTEM illustrates, through a visual and acrobatic language, the evolutionary progress of species. Somewhere between science and legend TOTEM explores the ties that bind Man to other species, his dreams and his infinite potential.

Performances:

  • Irvine: performances through December 29, 2013 at the Orange County Great Park Festival Site
  • Santa Monica: Opens January 17, 2013 at the Santa Monica Pier for a limited engagement.
