Man shoots postal driver, steals mail truck in Conley

CONLEY, Ga. -

The manhunt is on for the gunman who shot and robbed a United State Post Office worker. Police are also searching for the postal truck the thief made off during that robbery.

Friday night, someone got into a secured area at the post office located in the 1300 block of Cedar Grove Road in Conley sometime between 7:15 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. They shot the postal worker then made off with the truck he was driving.

The driver of the truck wasn't discovered for about a half hour. He was rushed to the hospital in critical conditions.

Postal inspectors say they believe the robber targeted the contract driver who spends his days driving between post offices. They aren't saying if anything was in the truck at the time of the robbery, but the company that hires those drivers believes the robber was after Christmas presents.

Since the robber targeted a postal truck, they will face Federal charges. Officials believe the crime was pulled off by only one man. They are offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to his arrest and conviction.

Anyone with further information should call the U.S. Postal Inspection Service at 1-877-876-2455.
