Family : Delaney Brown Has Died

Posted: Updated:
WEST READING, Pa. -

A terminally ill eastern Pennsylvania girl who received support from thousands of Christmas carolers over the weekend has died.

Family spokesman Christopher Winters says 8-year-old Delaney Brown of West Reading "passed away quietly with her loving family by her side" early Christmas morning.

He says the family is requesting privacy now "to celebrate their daughter's life and to mourn her loss."

Delaney, nicknamed Laney, was diagnosed in May with a rare form of leukemia.

An update posted on the "Team Laney" Facebook page says, "My heart breaks right now. Our little angel on earth earned her pink glittery angel wings in heaven. ... I miss her so much already."

On Saturday, several thousand people came out to sing Christmas carols honoring her holiday wish.

Laney died from AML Leukemia and only had a few days to live, according to her family. Laney also wished to meet Taylor Swift and the family says she spoke with her via video chat.

Family, friends, and even complete strangers showed up Saturday night to make Laney's final wish come true.

A NYPD plan intended to better connect with the community seems to have backfired a bit. The police department asked its twitter followers to share pictures of themselves with New York City police officers using the hashtag "myNYPD." Some did share nice pictures, but others not so much. Some of the first pictures posted showed regular citizens standing with very friendly looking police officers.
