Neighbor kills Citrus County family's mini-pig

TAMPA (FOX 13) -

A Citrus County family's miniature pot-bellied is dead, and their neighbor admitted he's the one who killed it.

Amanda Luider said the two-month-old pig, named "Arnold," had wandered away from the home in Homosassa. Ten minutes later, it was found lying dead across the street, outside the yard of their neighbor, Thomas Norris.

"Just totally devastated. Our whole family is just stunned," Luider told Fox 13. "What he did was heinous. He stripped three little girls of their best friend. He stripped me of my baby, and it was needless."

Norris said he thought the pig was wild and said it was "terrorizing" his animals, so he grabbed his gun.

"I missed it with the first shot and that was the only one I had, so I hit it with the butt of the gun, and I killed it," he said.

Norris said he had no idea it was his neighbor's pet.

"I feel horrible. I really do. I feel horrible," he said, adding he plans on offering to buy his neighbors a new pig.

A Bay area animal law attorney said this is a case that could fall under the state's animal cruelty laws.

Luider, however, doesn't believe the state attorney plans on filing charges, but she still wants Norris arrested.

"I pray that he has to stand in front of somebody and justify what he did. That's what I would love to see," she said.
