Multiple coyotes spotted lurking around Waterford Twp. home

(WJBK) -

She says they're cute but that's as far as Lisa's Juopperi's love for coyotes will go. She's been on guard since the wild animal invaded her Waterford Twp. neighborhood months ago. She shared photographs she and her husband, Ron, have taken of the coyote lurking in the back yard.

They're afraid for their kids and three dogs, and say they are starting to feel like prisoners in their own home.

The family was already worried about one coyote they had seen circling their yard for months, but then as soon as the lake froze they realized there were more - at least three coyotes.

"I watched for another couple minutes and then I saw a second one follow the first one, and then a third one follow the second one," Ron remembers.

"The DNR said they're as prevalent as squirrels these days," Lisa says.

Panic mode has officially set in. Footprints in the snow show how close the four-legged predators are coming to the house. Lisa says she has spent hours on the phone asking for help. Police directed her to the DNR which only suggested they get a fire arm, which they refuse to do.

"Do we have to take the matter into our own hands? And so, do we have to go find a firearm to take care of this, just in case they attack our dogs or even one of our kids? So, I mean, it's just self protection here. But, again, when you have a firearm in a subdivision you don't know where the bullets going to go," Ron says.

"Actually, I was told by one of the seven or eight trappers I called yesterday that do not want to handle this problem because of the liability involved," Lisa says.

The Juopperis are at wits end but they aren't the only ones in Oakland County dealing with coyotes. The DNR says the animal is very adaptable and to not feed them, or they may start to call your neighborhood home.
