Holiday fitness survival guide

Between all the office parties and the late nights, we get a little tripped up. Trainer Chaunda Walker-Walls says she has the answer: the pre-emptive strike.

Meaning, you don't just wait for temptation to come calling, you plan for it and work around it.

That's how she dropped more than a hundred pounds.

Tiny, fit, and crazy-motivated Chaunda walker-walls today, couldn't be more different than the old Chaunda of six years ago. "Back in 2007, I weighed 220 pounds" Walls says. "It was after marriage and childbirth, and an 8 year illness with depression, after my last child was born" she added. 

It took a year and half, but the mother of three lost 120-pounds with exercise, and healthy eating.

"When you're going through something like that, it is literally one meal at a time, and one exercise at a time" Walker-Walls added.

Walker-Walls says that is the perfect strategy for staying on track during the holidays: take it a day at a time, and think of exercise as your secret weapon. Focus on burning enough calories so that even if you overdo it later, you'll still break even. Once your workout is done, go to the party, but go easy on the alcohol - and the buffet.

Her trick: fill up on good stuff, before you get to the party. In fact, Chaunda says she actually eats on the way to the party: taking a cooler bag of healthy snacks like egg whites, and baked chicken and veggies with her in her car.

She encourages clients to focus on maintaining their weight rather than trying to lose right now.
