Only 2 years old, and casting like a pro

Posted: Updated:

He's not even 2 years old and he's just learning to talk, but Evan Almond is already an avid fisherman.

"We gonna go fishing with that?" his mom Erika asked. "Fishing? Fishing?" he responded, enthusiastically.

Evan's day starts at a local bait shop in St. Petersburg. He comes here so often his picture is on the wall.

Before even getting near the water, you can see just how much Evan loves to fish, as he plays with the rods in the store.

"This is our problem, it's like a true obsession," said his mom as she tries to pull him out of the store.

His obsession began in Evan's backyard.

"When he was 13 months old, he saw us fishing and he was sitting in the playpen and started getting really excited and wanting the pole too, And literally, ever since then, about two to three times a week, he's out there fishing," Erika explained.

With great zeal, he reels the line. However, even cute little fishermen aren't off the hook when it comes to disappointments.

"That was a good try," his mother sighed as one got away.

With try after try, day in and day out, Evan acquires the art of patience.

"Can you take a deep breath?" his mom asked. Evan exhaled as if the weight of the world was on him.

No time for terrible-two tantrums. This little guy's got a big fish to catch.

"He's able to get the fish from beginning to end and then is fascinated when the fish come up and just wants to touch them and hold them. He just loves it," his mother exclaimed.

After catching a red fish, Evan touches it and then sets it free.

"Say 'Bye bye, red fish,'" said his mom. Evan echoed, "Bye bye, fish."

His fascination with fishing continues indoors, where he casts his play rod from the couch, watches his favorite fishing show, and reads a bedtime story of fish tales just before dreams of the next time he'll be gone fishing.
