Cab Stolen After Driver Shot Outside Nightclub

PHILADELPHIA -

The search is on for the man police say shot a cab driver in Hunting Park and then drove off in the victim's car.

It all happened outside a nightclub, and people in the area say they're being pushed to their limits, FOX 29's Omari Fleming reports.

By day, church choir members pour into Living Body of Christ Fellowship for practice.

At night, residents describe a different sound coming from next door at QSL, an afterhours club located nearby behind a gate.

That's because around 5 a.m. Saturday police say the driver of a Towncar was carjacked and shot in front of the club on the 3400 block of Old York Road.

Police tell us when the gunman asked for a ride. The driver said he was waiting for a fare.

According to police, a 21-year-old security guard at the club identified the gunman as a patron who'd been kicked out.

Police say the carjacker didn't just take aim at the driver, pulling him out of the Towncar and shooting him in the cheek and the hand.

They say the 28-year-old gunman fired at the licensed security guard who fired back.

Investigators don't know if the gunman was wounded. He escaped in the town car found ditched nearby at Ninth and Venango streets.

Churchgoers say they're now praying for the 46-year-old victim's recovery and their safe passage to Sunday services.

Police describe the suspect as a 28-year-old man who is 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing 200 pounds. They say he has a full beard and freckles.

While he's still on the run the victim was brought to Temple University Hospital. We're told he's in stable condition, Fleming reported.

A NYPD plan intended to better connect with the community seems to have backfired a bit. The police department asked its twitter followers to share pictures of themselves with New York City police officers using the hashtag "myNYPD." Some did share nice pictures, but others not so much. Some of the first pictures posted showed regular citizens standing with very friendly looking police officers.
