Little Boy In ICU Gets Christmas Wish

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

It's the most wonderful time of the year. Even seven-year-old Weston Keeton is getting into the Christmas spirit from his room in the intensive care unit at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

"I asked him yesterday and he said, 'I'm just so excited about Christmas,'" said Julie Keeton, Weston's mother.

Keeton has been at CHOP for a majority of the last two years while he awaits a heart and double lung transplant.

"He is such a fighter and he is so strong; he has the spirit of a champion."

This year, this champion is asking all of you to join his team. His Christmas wish is to decorate his hospital room with ornaments from all over the world. And very soon, the ornaments started coming in.

"He was so excited to get his first ornament," recalled Keeton.

Now, he has 60 ornaments from as far away as Japan and Holland.

"He just loves that interaction that he doesn't get to have," said Keeton.

Weston's six siblings moved up to Philadelphia from Tennessee to be by his side. His father, Adam, is able to visit about once a month.

"We didn't think [Weston] was gonna make it past July and now we're at Christmas and he's alive and strong and doing well..." said Keeton.

Each day of life is a blessing for this mini miracle. Each Christmas ornament that Weston receives in the mail puts a big smile on this little guy's face and lifts the spirit of the entire family.

"It's people showing that such a hard time there are good people out there that really care and want to help children," reflected Keeton.
