Queens kids fly to 'North Pole' to meet Santa

Posted: Updated:

More than 100 New York City schoolchildren arrived at JFK Airport greeted by Santa's helpers. The mission: a flight to the North Pole to meet the man himself.

Delta Air Lines and the YMCA set up the event and spared no detail. The kids even had their own boarding passes. The Delta elves say they were delighted to help out.

These students are from P.S. 197 in the Rockaways. Their school was devastated by Hurricane Sandy. They've gone through security, they've boarded the plane and now they're ready to go to the North Pole. After a quick taxi around the runway, they arrived at hangar 19, a.k.a. the North Pole.

The students rotated through stations, they dribbled basketballs, enjoyed some North Pole cuisine, and took pictures with a polar bear. After about an hour of fun, the guest of honor made a special appearance: Santa Claus.
