PHOTOS: Multi Car Crash Closes Southbound 405 In Van Nuys

(FOX 11 / CNS) Eleven people were injured today, one seriously, in a multi-vehicle wreck that blocked all lanes of the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway in Van Nuys, snarling mid-morning traffic heading into the Sepulveda Pass.

The collision was reported about 9:30 a.m. near Sherman Way, and involved a big rig, a catering truck and four other vehicles, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Paramedics transported seven people for hospital treatment, one with serious injuries and six with minor-to-moderate injuries, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. Four other people were treated at the scene and released.

The southbound lanes remained blocked for more than an hour as crews worked to clear the scene.

The protest was organized by PETA and NYCLASS after a horse fell on the corner of 5th Avenue and 59th Street Wednesday. The protestors said the horse was spooked by a bus and cited witness accounts who shot some video. The horse that fell is 15-year-old Spartacus.
