Missing NJ Teen

Freehold Twp., N.J.(My9NJ.com) -

Michael Karwan, a high-functioning nineteen year old autistic child, walked out of his parents’ Marlboro house last Tuesday night, and no one’s seen him since.

Volunteers teamed up with the Guardian Angels to help find Michael and there are credible reports of Michael’s whereabouts surfacing everywhere, from Howell, New Jersey to Marlboro, New York.

Ed Moldaver of the Guardian Angels says this case is different than a usual disappearance case. “It’s not like a regular nineteen year old missing. It’s an autistic child that’s missing with a mental capacity of a seven year old,” he said.

Monmouth County Prosecutor Chris Gramiccioni said that Michael’s been seen in Manhattan. Gramiccioni’s spokesman told the Star Ledger that Michael had also been spotted in upstate New York. They think he was misdirected at Port Authority. He may have asked for a ticket to his hometown Marlboro in New Jersey, but got a ticket to Marlboro, New York instead.

Curtis Sliwa, the founder of Guardian Angels, says everyone can help in this case. “The way you can be helpful is spreading the word,” he said.

Sliwa also recommended working with Autism Speaks. Many people don’t know how to deal with disappearing people with autism. Working with this group will help give a better perspective on how to handle the case.

The main effort of the volunteers and Guardian Angels is to get the missing posters up. The posters empower and enlist the public. If you don’t know the child’s missing or what he looks like, how can you look for him?

If you have any information about Michael Karwan, please contact 911 or call (917) 359-7440.
