When it comes to good eats and refreshing drinks on the go, no airport in North America beats the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, according to an international council.
At the international airport in the Twin Cities, most travelers expect lines, security checks and maybe a bit of hassle -- but gourmet food is something few anticipate.
In the past two years, the menu options at the airport have expanded -- especially in Concourse G, where 11 new restaurants now reside. The restaurant management company On The Go helped create the vision with the help of local chefs.
One such chef, Sara Johannes, is best recognized as a Top Chef contestant. She helped develop menus for four of the restaurants in the concourse, including Shoyu.
"This is probably the best experience we have had out of any airport," Hugo Schmidt estimated.
The Schmidt family travels four or five times a year, so they eat at airports a lot.
"Minneapolis airport food is high quality," Henri Schmidt said. "A lot of other places you go to, you get McDonalds, Burger King -- not very much variety, just junk food, fast food. Here, you get nice food."
Traveler's don't even need a server to get a serving in some areas. The iPads found at tables allow patrons to make a selection and even special order a delivery from their gate while surfing the web or checking a flight status.
"I think it's brilliant," Sandra Kirscherenmann said. "I love this. It's my favorite airport in America."
