Two homes in Livonia are damaged after they were hit by firebombs. Residents say police have led them to believe the first house was hit accidentally, while the second home was the intended target. The family living in the second home tells Fox 2's Alexis Wiley they believe they were targeted because they are the only black residents in the neighborhood.

The Clora family has lived in the home for about five years and never had a problem until last week, when two windows in the back of the home were hit by what police are calling a "Molotov Cocktail" style incendiary device. No one was home at the time, but Clora's neighbor saw the smoke.

"I saw the smoke coming up from the leaves, and I saw a man wearing a jacket and a hat, and he was in the backyard doing God only knows what, and all of a sudden I heard glass break while he's back there," Chere Bernhard says. She says she called 911. The man she saw waited for police, and told her he saw a black man running from the scene. She maintains she saw one white man in the backyard.

A house two doors down was also firebombed less than 48 days prior.

Livonia Police stopped at Bernhard's home after the first incident, and she says they told her it was a "possible mistarget," that they had a possible person of interest and that another attack could happen again. She adds the police then asked her for the racial description of the people that lived next door to her.

Clora says, "I asked them 'Why do you think we were the victims?' and they said 'This kind of thing doesn't happen in Livonia; this is something that happens in Detroit.'"

Clora adds Livonia detectives interrogated her family for at least six hours and never told them about the man Bernhard says she saw in their backyard.

Both families believe this attack was racially motivated because the Cloras are the only black family on the block. They want to make sure no piece of evidence is overlooked.

"I'm not going to feel comfortable living here ever again, and I do want a further investigation," Clora says.

Wiley has contacted the Livonia Police Department but says her calls have not yet been returned.
