Blue Angels returning to Sun 'n Fun

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA (FOX 13) -

The U.S. Navy Blue Angels are flying air shows again, and Lakeland is on the schedule for April.

The team wasn't able to perform at the MacDill Airfest last year because of budget cuts, but they've been practicing and they say they're are ready to perform and show off their skills as fighter pilots.

"You're going to see those jets take off and see 45 minutes of precision flying," promised Lt. Ryan Chamberlain. "They're gonna stretch that aircraft to the maximum extent of its capabilities -- minus 3 to positive 7.5 g's."

The Blue Angels will take to the sky at the Sun 'n Fun air show in Lakeland the first week in April of next year.

Though they made the announcement in Lakeland, the runway there is under construction. So Lt. Chamberlain had to fly his number-seven jet in and out of Tampa International Airport, which must have caught at least a few early holiday travelers by surprise.
