FELTON, Del. -

The Delaware State Police arrested a Felton man after an investigation determined he engaged in sexual acts with a minor.

The investigation began on Wednesday October 23, 2013 when police were dispatched for a trespass complaint in the unit block of Country Side.  When the officer arrived, contact was made with Edward L. Bassett, who lives in the development with his mother and three young children. Bassett informed the officer that a 14 year old girl from Middletown was living in his home since July of 2001. The 14 year old was picked up earlier that afternoon and returned home by Camden Police Department.  Bassett was not charged with any crime for the trespassing complaint and was released. Upon further investigation, Police discovered that Edward Bassett "friended" the 14 year old girl on Facebook approximately a year ago.  She then ran away from her home and lived at Bassett's residence. Basset and the girl became involved in a sexual relationship and engaged in sexual encounters several times.

Edward L. Bassett is a Tier II (medium risk) sex offender. He was convicted in December of 1997 for Unlawful Sexual Contact

Police arrested on Friday November 22nd and charged him with Unlawful Sexual Contact by a Sex Offender and eight counts of Rape 2nd.
