CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A DePaul University student was beaten Thursday night in an incident near the school's Lincoln Park campus, school officials said in an alert to students.

The male student was walking with two females in the 800 block of West Fullerton Avenue about 9:40 p.m. when three male suspects began shouting rude comments at the group, the alert said.

The suspects began to punch and kick the man, then ran away when campus police arrived, the alert said. The student refused medical treatment.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact DePaul's Public Safety Office at (773) 325-7777.

Campus officials are urging students and staff to be aware of their surroundings and use the university's escort service.
