Meadowlands complex to be locked down ahead of big game

NEW JERSEY (MYFOXNY.COM) -

Don't have tickets to the Super Bowl? Well, forget hanging out at the MetLife Stadium parking lot before kickoff. This area is going to be in lockdown a week before the big game.

The extra security will impact the entire Meadowlands sports complex. Commuters won't be able to take their short cut through the complex during rush-hour, which will mean a lot of congestion in and around East Rutherford.

"Lockdown for a whole week, how can they possibly do that?" said Redd, the owner of Redd's Restaurant and Bar right on Route 120. He said the tight security will make it harder for customers to come in. On top of that, Red's shuttle buses for customers will only be allowed to make one trip into the stadium on game day.

"What is it going to mean? A lot of aggravation," he said. "A lot of aggravation, it's going to be tough."

The restrictions are in place for safety reasons but could also make tailgating an issue.

With the sports complex on lockdown and limited game-day parking passes, fans will have very limited access to pre-game festivities.
