An officer took a shoplifting suspect to the ground after he allegedly stole a bottle of alcohol and flipped off the clerks.

Mesa Police say 32-year-old Isac Morris walked into A&E Market near Southern Avenue and Mesa Drive and shoplifted a $5 bottle of MD 20/20, a fruit-flavored wine.

He allegedly flipped off the clerks as he was walking past them.

The owners ran outside to stop him, but police say Morris assaulted them and fled on foot.

Shortly afterward, police got a call about a man matching Morris' description who was screaming obscenities and breaking a glass bottle in the street.

An officer arrived and confronted Morris, but he allegedly charged the officer and tried to assault him.

The officer took Morris to the ground and put him in custody.

The owners of the market identified Morris as the shoplifting suspect and the glass he broke in the street was the stolen bottle of alcohol.

Morris was booked on robbery and resisting arrest charges.
