Internet Gambling Coming To NJ

Posted: Updated:
Atlantic City, New Jersey (My9NJ) -

New Jersey is about to launch online gaming. The "soft launch" begins today and hundreds of invited guests will be allowed to test the new system.

During this time, the gaming commission will be monitoring security measures, payment processes and ability to limit the gamblers to New Jersey.

If all goes well, the general public will begin online gambling as soon as next week.

The way this system is set up allows the twelve casinos that already have licenses to partner with internet gaming companies. This helps to regulate the amount of casinos who are allowed to participate in internet gambling by limiting it to existing casinos and also eliminating the smaller businesses in the area.

Senator Ray Lesniak sponsored the bill to legalize internet gambling. He said this will save millions of tax dollars and thousands of jobs.

“Without it, two casinos were on the verge of closing. We would have lost over 5,000 jobs and people would have been out of work and that’s not a good thing,” Lesniak said.

Right now this is only for New Jersey residents so the gaming commission will track that by using logins and monitoring cell phone usage.

There is already over a billion dollars of internet gambling going on right now, but the profits are just going to overseas companies.

Senator Lesniak is expected to introduce a bill to expand internet gaming internationally for New Jersey casino operators.
