Minneapolis dog fighting bust rescues 15 pit bulls

MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) -

Minneapolis police and animal control officers executed search warrants at 10 addresses Wednesday in connection with a suspected dog fighting ring.

Nine of the properties were in Minneapolis and one in New Hope, Minn. Officers seized 15 pit bulls, two guns, a dog fighting training manual and an unspecified amount of narcotic drugs and supplies associated with dog fighting.

The dogs were found in fairly good condition; however, many had injuries consistent with dog fighting. The pit bulls are currently being cared for at the Minneapolis Animal Care and Control shelter.

"The dogs [were], like I said, they're in a kennel, they're chained up. Most of them [were] on a dirt surface. Some had feces in the kennel area," said Sgt. Lindsay Herron, animal crimes investigator with the Minneapolis Police Department. "Most of them did not have water. I did not locate food in most of the kennels, so these dogs are not well cared for."

A suspected dog fighter was arrested and booked into the Hennepin County Jail, where he is awaiting charges.

Fox 9 News has learned that the man apparently rented homes specifically to keep the dogs.

Anyone with any information about this ongoing investigation is asked to call the tipline at 612-692-TIPS (8477) or text information to 847 411 (Tip 411), enter MPD and the tip.
