Man Charged with Kidnapping, Molesting Toddler

Posted: Updated:

(FOX/CNS) - A Los Angeles man was charged today with kidnapping a 3-year-old girl from a Boyle Heights party and sexually molesting the toddler.

Edward Lopez, 55, was scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon at the downtown Los Angeles courthouse on one felony count each of kidnapping to commit another crime, oral copulation of a child under 10 and committing a lewd act on a child.

The girl's mother noticed that her daughter was missing from the party about 11 p.m. Saturday, and Los Angeles police officers found the nude suspect in a locked shed with the child several hours later, according to authorities.

Deputy District Attorney Lowrie Mendoza will ask that Lopez's bail be set at $1 million.

If convicted, he faces up to life in prison, according to the District Attorney's Office.
