Elderly Man Dies of Beating, Relative Arrested

Glendale, CA -

(FOX 11 / CNS) An 84-year-old beating victim died at a hospital today, and a 22-year-old family member was arrested for the crime, Glendale police reported.

Authorities sent to the 1800 block of West Glenoaks Boulevard about 5:30 a.m. Monday found the mortally injured senior citizen in an apartment, said Glendale police Sgt. Tom Lorenz. Ruben Sanchez died at County-USC Medical Center, the sergeant said.

Lorenz said investigators initially believed they were dealing with a burglary that ended in an assault. But robbery-homicide detectives, working around the clock, followed up on leads that led them to Adrian Sanchez, 22, who was arrested in El Cajon with the aid of the U.S. Marshal's Office.

The motive for the crime was unclear, as was the relationship between the victim and suspect, who is expected to be arraigned on Thursday.
