Oxford Elementary students can compete in an after-school club competition called 'Academic Games' coached by volunteer parents. The games pose academic questions.

Jennifer Washington tells Fox 2's Ron Savage she wanted her second-grade daughter to participate, so her daughter joined at the beginning of the school year. The coach told the mother after the second practice that second graders were currently not being recruited. The club is for third, fourth and fifth grade students.

Then, a few weeks later, Washington says she learned first and second graders were on the team. Washington approached the coach, who said the younger students were relatives of coaches so they were allowed to play.

Parents who volunteer coach are allowed to bring their children to the competition even if they are below the third grade level.

Dr. William Skilling, an Oxford superintendent, says he does not see this as a double standard. "These parents that are doing the Academic Games are volunteers, are giving up their time, and in order for them to give up their time they've got to have their kids watched. And we can't expect them to hire babysitters."
