I-Team: Mistaken Identity problem apology

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

The law firm that took the wrong man to court over mistaken identity has tracked him down again.

FOX 5 I-Team reporter Dana Fowle has followed a paper trail and trekked to a court hearing where everything seemed to be all sorted out, but no there is an unexpected development.

It is a case of mistaken identity where one man owes a lot of money, one man owes none. Debt collectors kept going after the wrong guy, but this time when a creditor called they knew exactly who they were looking for.

Last month the I-Team even went to court with Mike King where he was persuasive enough the debt collectors, Gill Law Firm, dropped the case.

But then the Gill Law Firm made a gesture of good will. They sent a letter to the wronged Mike King and apologized. But they took it one more step by offering to help fight any future mistaken identity cases or a $500 donation to his favorite charity in his name.

Mike King is a manager at FOX 5 but when he's not there, he's swimming or biking for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society team. And that's where he asked The Gill Firm send his 500 bucks.

We already know about some of the fees our banks charge -- the monthly fee, the overdraft charge, out-of-network and minimum balance fees. That's standard stuff. But did you know that the average checking account has 30 fees attached?
