PHOENIX -

A Mesa couple was killed in a plane crash Sunday while on vacation in the Bahamas and now we're learning more about them.

Gary Glen and Leslie Steiner owned a valley plumbing and heating business for the last 10 years.  They went on vacation in the Bahamas, taking a scenic flight over one of the islands.  Their plane crashed into the ocean about four miles away from an airport.

On Tuesday, Glen's son spoke about his father and stepmother and the shock of hearing about their death.

"They were supporting downtown Mesa.. he was always there donating time weekends, Saturdays packaging food, whatever he had to do," said Rob Steiner.  "It's hard, it's a big shock for everyone, but again, we just have so much support."

Authorities say 59-year-old Anthony Wishart of Fishers, Indiana was piloting the single-engine Cirrus SR22. The other victim was Cynthia Mierzwa of Porter County in northwestern Indiana.

Meachelle Wishart, the pilot's sister-in-law, told the Indianapolis Star that he and his wife, Diane, were visiting the Bahamas as part of a trip that also took them to nearby Florida and Hilton Head Island, S.C., where he owned property.

She said Anthony Wishart had about two decades' experience as a pilot.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is holding its monthly board meeting, two days after it heard from a panel on what it needs to do to improve its accountability and efficiency and restore public trust.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey could rescind a $1-a-year lease for a park-and-ride lot near the Lincoln Tunnel. The agency's chief of real estate and development told a committee Wednesday that it should change a deal made in 2012. Published reports have alleged that former Port Authority chairman David Samson voted to approve the lease even though his law firm did business with New Jersey Transit, which operates the park-and-ride lot.
