IKEA's ideas to get your home holiday-ready

IKEA's Amanda Preston shows us ways and tips to help get your home holiday-ready.

Tips from IKEA:

1. TOASTY TOUCHES: Since the weather outside is frightful, cozy is key for holiday décor. Guests will delight in luxe and cushy textures that help them feel at home, like velvet pillow covers. Make sure you have extra bedding on hand for overnight guests and leave out slippers as a special touch - it will keep guests warm and comfortable, while helping you enforce your (sensible) shoes off policy!

Product Suggestions:
SANELA Cushion cover, $7.00
KARIT Bedspread and 2 cushion covers, $39.99
NJUTA Slippers, $2.49 ($1.99 for IKEA FAMILY Members)

2. SEASONAL SCENTS: Happy holidays are often accompanied by festive smells. Place scented candles around the house to bring back winter memories, or make holiday cheer inescapable by baking sugar cookies just before guests arrive so the sweet smell lingers in the air.

Product Suggestions:
TINDRA Scented candle in a metal cup, $5.99/12 pack
SKURAR Candle holder, $1.99*
DRÖMMAR Pastry cutter, $2.99/set of six

3. TRADITIONAL TASTE: The only thing better than the smell of holiday food is the taste of it!  What would the holidays be without family recipes and food traditions both savory and sweet? Keep plenty of multipurpose serving dishes on hand and stock up on beautiful glasses so nobody goes thirsty. At the end of the evening, give guests sweet treats to take home in pretty and seasonal containers.

Product Suggestions:
NÄRHET Red wine glass, $4.99
SMARTA Oven/serving dish, $14.99
SNÖKUL Container with lid, $5.99/set of 3*

4. SUGAR PLUM VISIONS: Surprise and delight your loved ones with creative holiday décor throughout the house. Give your home a festive (and affordable!) makeover by using everyday items as holiday decorations. Fill a vase normally used for flowers with decorative ornaments or switch out plain table napkins for ones with more festive flair.

Product Suggestions:
CYLINDER Vase/bowl, set of 3, $18.99
SNÖMYS Decoration, ornament, $5.99/5 pack*
SNÖKUL Dish towel, check pattern, $4.99/2 pack*
