Sentencing delayed for brutal home invasion suspect

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX -

A judge has pushed back the sentencing of one of the men charged with the home invasion of two elderly Phoenix couples.

Lester Dunnings was supposed to be sentenced Tuesday, but was delayed because the judge hadn't seen the mitigation report.

Dunnings is one of two men arrested for two home invasions, which took place just days apart in south Phoenix back in Nov. 2010.

In both cases, the residents of those homes were elderly couples who were bound and beaten.

Dunnings pleaded guilty to two counts of second degree murder, three counts of kidnapping and one count of theft.

Police say on Nov. 11 he and Mike Taubman forced their way into a home near 32nd Street and Southern.

They tied up a 90-year-old man and his 87-year-old wife.

Both victims suffered heart attacks during the assault and died.

They then robbed the house.

The pair is also accused of robbing another house near 40th Street and Southern just four days later.

They also are accused of beating an 83-year-old man and his 81-year-old wife during that home invasion.

Dunnings is expected to be sentenced Dec. 19 at 10:30 a.m.

Taubman's case is still on going.
