First Flakes Of Season Fly, Temps Dropping Quickly

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

A cold front moving across the area this morning has brought our first flurries of the season to many areas and some light snow farther to the north and west.

Temperatures are starting to fall now, and the skies are pretty gray.

We've been seeing very light snow that's certainly not adding up to anything in Philadelphia, but it's fun to see flakes flying around again.

Ultimate Doppler radar showed it was still rain in South Jersey and southern Delaware as the morning commute was winding down.

The switchover already happened in Philadelphia. The tail end of what little snow we're having was leaving Berks County by mid-morning and going into Chester and Montgomery counties.

Meanwhile, decent rain was moving through southern New Jersey. We had some at the shore; we got more in Salem and Cumberland counties. Eventually, the cold air moving in will cause temperatures to drop, and that will change over to snow, as well.

Temperatures dropped into the 30s in the city and the 20s in the Poconos, but remained in the 40s at some shore points.

Winds in the teens are gusting to about 20 mph in the city and near 30 mph in Mount Pocono. So, it is blustery out there as the temperatures continue to fall.

We'll settle in at about 41 degrees for an afternoon high. It will feel colder than that because of the wind today.

Thursday looks milder at 52, and we'll get to 54 degrees Friday. By Saturday, we're at 60. This whole period is a dry one, by the way.

On Sunday, we have the Philadelphia Marathon in the morning. We think it will be dry for that, but some rain is on the way possibly for Monday. By then, we have temperatures in the mid-60s, so it is only rain.
