CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

The Moving Vietnam Wall made its stop in Aurora Sunday morning. It is reportedly one of the largest traveling tributes in the region.

Since 1984, The Moving Wall is a traveling half-size replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The Vietnam Moving Wall is much more than a wall with names, it honors the lives of the service men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The crowd in Aurora came out to Sunday morning healing service at the Vietnam Moving Wall. Aurora is the 21st stop for The Moving Wall. The tribute is on tour across the country. Of the nearly 60,000 names on the wall, 18 fallen soldiers were from the Aurora area – they were also honored.

Aurora mayor Tom Weisner said the traveling tribute is a reminder of Vietnam's painful history and also an opportunity to say thank you.

"I hope that never again will a returning veteran come back from overseas to find out that they may or may not be properly thanked or honored. Today perhaps, we do a little to make up to our veterans for what they may have experienced," said Weisner.

Weisner reminded the audience that many Vietnam veterans returned home to a country torn apart by the political turmoil of an unpopular war. For those unable to see the wall in person there is a virtual wall online.

The wall will be a real-life history lesson for students at West Aurora High School when they return from the holiday weekend.
