MCSO: Man wounded after trying to hit deputy with his car

Posted: Updated:

WITTMANN, Ariz. (AP) - A Maricopa County Sheriff's deputy shot and wounded a man after the man tried to hit the deputy with his car.

According to MCSO's Christopher Hegstrom, the deputy stopped a vehicle Saturday morning near 213th Avenue and Patton Road.

When the deputy asked the driver to step out of his vehicle, Hegstrom says the driver allegedly put the vehicle in reverse and attempted to hit the deputy.

The deputy fired his weapon, hitting the man. The suspect was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Hegstrom says the man, whose name was not immediately released, will be booked into the 4th Avenue Jail upon his release from the hospital.
