ANN ARBOR, Mich. (WJBK) -

Thom DeWolf and his wife, Kris, say the news of three arrests comes as a surprise and a relief.

Their son, 25-year-old Paul DeWolf, a U-M medical student and 2nd Lieutennant in the Air Force, was found shot and killed inside this medical society residential house on North Ingalls back in July.

The medical examiner says he was shot once in the neck.

"I think to put a face with the person who murdered my son will be very difficult," Thom DeWolf shares with Fox 2's Robin Schwartz.

Police say the three suspects have no connection to DeWolf, the University of Michigan or the Air Force. No motive has been revealed, but police did confirm one theory is that this was a home invasion. The gun used in the crime has not been found. Investigators are not looking for anymore suspects.

Students who live near the murder scene are also expressing relief, and most say they do feel safe on campus even though it appears this was a random crime.

Police are still not releasing the names of the suspects until they're arraigned. No date has been scheduled yet for the arraignment.
