Veteran Double Amputee Bikes Across Country To Raise Funds

Posted: Updated:

He was wounded in combat in Afghanistan and lost both his legs, but Rob Jones, 28, a decorated Marine, is now biking across the US to raise money for Veteran's charities. He will cover more than 5400 miles by the time his journey ends.

Jones' journey took him through the PA region today. He biked through Conshohocken.

This isn't the first time Jones has made an impression. Jones also won bronze medal for rowing at the 2012 Paralympic Games in London, according to WLBZ2. Before that, he participated in the Nation's Triathlon in Washington, DC in September of 2011, all with prosthetic legs.

Jones wants to encourage everyone to take on challenges, no matter how great they seem. "In setting a goal to raise 1 million dollars, I hope to show what Americans can accomplish when we come together for a purpose," he writes on his official site.

All proceeds raised from his ride will go to support three charities: the Coalition to Salute America's Hero's, the Semper Fi Fund and the Ride to Recovery. These are all groups that Jones says aided him and his family while he was recovering from his injury.

Jones began his journey Oct. 14 in Ben Harbor, Maine and tries to ride 30 miles a day.
