Ongoing Rt. 3 Construction

Posted: Updated:
Clifton, New Jersey (My9NJ) -

The ongoing Route 3 construction has been a problem for a while. Clifton resident, Skip Herrschaft said, “It’s been the same for the last forty, fifty years.” Even though the route can be frustrating, there are some places along that road where people can stop to relieve some stress.

Route 3 is home to many different businesses including the Holy Face Monastery, home of the Benedictine Brothers. The monastery was opened in 1953 and has remained there since. “We’re an oasis that we offer this place to anyone who wishes to come up, and they do. And they come up at all hours every day,” Father Bernard said. Various groups of people come to participate at the house of prayer.

Father Bernard also said that he feels that Route 3 is a meditation in itself. The urgency of the drivers reminds the Monks of the importance of their work, and Father Bernard hopes that the presence of the monastery reminds drivers of God’s omnipresence.

Further down Route 3 sits the Tick Tock Diner. The diner feeds a variety of people coming through its doors every day. Tick Tock Diner waitress, Lisa Fenner said, “Some people are in and out really quick. They have to go. And some people just want to linger around and have no where to go. Because they like the company, and they think it’s a nice place to be here.”

Even though the ongoing construction on Route 3 can be a hassle, there are spots all along the highway that produce a type of serenity not usually found in the drivers on that road.
