New phase of life for 'Don't tase me bro' guy

MIAMI (FOX 13) -

Six years ago, Andrew Meyer drew national attention when he was a student at the University of Florida. Security personnel pulled him away from a question-and-answer session with John Kerry.

After Meyer argued and protested, he was stunned by a Taser. Video of Meyer saying "don't taze me bro" became a viral sensation, and triggered a national debate over free speech rights.

"Something happens, it's everywhere," said Meyer. "People will say things like, ‘You really opened my eyes to things I didn't see.'"

On the sixth anniversary of the Taser incident, Meyer agreed to an interview with FOX 13 at his workplace in north Miami. Meyer finished college, got a law degree, and now works as a financial consultant in the precious metals market.

"The first answer I want to give is, I hope I've changed…Like most 21-year-olds, I was just learning," Meyer said. "A lot of people don't want to listen to you if you're angry on a soap box."

Meyer said he did not plan to make a scene six years ago. He had asked a question about voting problems in Florida, and said that's what he wanted people to remember.

Meyer said the guards who stunned him probably violated his free speech rights, but said he does not want to judge them. He said as it turned out, that night was a blessing, because it helped him re-examine his character

"Calm, cool and collected; this is the place where you can help people," he added.
