A husband and wife in Maine go head to head for the same political office. Democrat Jennifer Johnson became Waterville's newest Ward One Warden on Tuesday.
She defeated her husband, Republican David Johnson, in the race.
Mrs. Johnson will oversee voting at a polling place on upcoming election days, but says her husband will be volunteering right by her side.
"We were here, we were here on the couch and I called it my victory party for two," she told reporters. "And so I kind of…nudged him a little bit about that."
Despite running against each other, Mrs. Johnson also proudly revealed that her husband voted for he in during the ballot.
"When he voted, he took a picture of the ballot and emailed to me and said, ‘look, I voted for you too!'" she said.
The final vote was 127 for Mrs. Johnson and 76 of Mr. Johnson. The Johnson's have taken the media attention they've received to address child hunger and help kick off a donation drive for a food pantry for the next three years.
