Governor Christie Wins Election

Posted: Updated:
Trenton, New Jersey (My9NJ) -

Last night, the Associated Press declared that Governor Chris Christie had won the gubernatorial election as soon as the polls closed at 8PM on Twitter. Some people have been calling this election Christie’s audition for a 2016 presidential bid.

One of those people is Jim McQueeny, host of New Jersey Now. “People thought they were voting for governor in the gubernatorial election this year, but really it’s the first primary of the 2016 presidential election,” he said.

Democratic strategist Steve Ayscue agrees that Christie’s victory may lead to his presidential run. Christie has been working with Democrats on bipartisan projects and solving problems together for the good of the taxpayers, which has helped him gain both Republican and Democratic support. “People want to hear that. They’re tired of the blame game politics of Washington,” Ayscue said.

It seems that with the re-election of a Republican governor, the Garden State may be becoming a red state. McQueeny doesn’t agree with this and chalks it up to personal popularity, not the changing of political stances in New Jersey. “This is the cult of the personality of Chris Christie. And it’s a very powerful cult around him,” he said.

From the beginning this lection seemed to be heavily in Christie’s. “The Democrats, really by and large, bailed out on Barbara Buono. They’ll say no, but the big bosses said take a pass on this one guys, we don’t need to do more than what we’ve done,” McQueeny said.

Even the GOP members, New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez and former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani that Christie selected and invited to New Jersey seemed to be an unnecessary endorsement. Not many people in New Jersey knew who Governor Martinez was before this, and Christie is already a household name. “He didn’t need either one of them to be honest with you. He really didn’t. You know, he is his own brand,” Ayscue said.
