An 86-year-old California woman is dead after she hit her head on the pavement at the New York City Marathon. Joy Johnson from San Jose was the oldest woman to complete Sunday's race.
She fell around the 20th mile. Medics wanted to take her to the hospital, but she wanted to finish the marathon.
On Monday, she felt tired and lied down on her hotel bed, she never woke up.
Officials say she died from her injures.
It was Johnson's 25th New York City Marathon.
"At least she was running, the way she wanted to go," her daughter, Diana Boydston, told The New York Daily News.
