200 Men Compete In World Beard Championship

Posted: Updated:

Some men say that they can't get used to beards, so they shave them off after a few days. Some women claim to hate beards or any facial hair on their man. However, none of them appeared at this gathering in Germany where hundreds flew in for one hairy competition.

"The World Beard Championships," which features 22 categories, was held in Leinfelden-Echterdingen, Germany over the weekend.

200 contestants came from twenty countries to compete in competitions including in categories like moustaches, beards, and "trendy beards."

"Trendy" means the guy uses a razor at least occasionally.

British Beard Competitor Truman Castor explains his interest in joining the other competitors in the championship.

"The fascination with beards? They're a bit out there, a bit wacky, a bit weird and wonderful. You can create anything you want from it. It's expression in its purest form. And the beer is good in Germany, so we're here," Castor said.

Full-bearded Burke Kenny led the American League at this year's competition.
