Man Kills Girlfriend, Commits Suicide

Posted: Updated:

Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives are investigating a murder-suicide that occurred last night in North Amityville, Long Island.

First Precinct police officers responded to 3 North Drive following a 911 call reporting that a man was stabbing a woman at that address. When police arrived, they discovered Virginia Vasquez, 32, and her boyfriend Stephen Guillaume, 35, dead in the doorway of their home.

Vasquez’s 14-year-old daughter was cut on the hand when she attempted to help her mother. She was taken to an area hospital where she will undergo surgery on her hand. Vasquez’s 4-year-old son, who was also in the home at the time, was unharmed.

Detectives learned that Guillaume began stabbing Vasquez after she told Guillaume that they were breaking up.

The investigation is continuing.

Instead they found a terrified woman who had no clue what they were talking about and her teenaged son playing video games. "We received a phone call from a gentleman who stated he had just shot his mother and his brother," Long Beach Police Commissioner Michael Tangney said. "Unfortunately, this is a terrible national problem for law enforcement."
