New York's attorney general has sued to block Lyft, the on-demand ride-sharing app, from operating in New York. The lawsuit was filed Friday, hours before the company planned to begin operating in Brooklyn and Queens. The suit says the company actually operates as a traditional for-hire livery service using mobile technology, not a peer-to-peer transportation platform as claimed. Lyft representatives have said NYC's laws are outdated.

Lyft, the pink-mustached cars, is an app-based car-sharing service. It launches Friday in New York City as a sort of outer-borough Uber except the drivers are ordinary folks, not professionals. At the end of the ride, a donation is asked for but not required. Lyft car sharing is operating in 60 cities already. But New York City may be different. Meera Joshi, the chair of the Taxi and Limousine Commission, says Lyft's business model is illegal.

For the third straight day and the second time in Hempstead, human remains were found on Long Island. On Thursday afternoon, a severed arm was discovered in the yard of a home on Stewart Ave. and Cornell St., only blocks away from where another severed arm was discovered a day earlier. Police on Long Island and New York City are reportedly looking into the possibility the body parts belong to a missing woman from Brooklyn.
