Hadiya Pendleton inspires ballet: `Generations` by Nicole Clark Springer

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Hadiya Pendleton's tragic death has become the face for violence in Chicago. Choreographer Nicole Clark Springer has taken her tragic loss and used it as inspiration for her ballet "Generations."

The piece shows how Springer was moved by Hadiya's life and death as a mother. She wanted the piece to be about Hadiya and about all of our children. She used dance to express her reaction to the violence and its impact on the entire Chicago community.

Springer was also inspired by the 15-year-old's name, which means "spiritual guide." She said the violence that has touched the Pendleton family stems from the same spiritual conflicts you were already exploring for the ballet.

You can see Deeply Rooted Dance's performance of "Generations" at the Harris Theater at Millennium Park on Friday, Nov. 1 at 8 p.m. Cleopatra Pendleton will attend the Chicago performance.

For ticket information, call 312-334-7777 or visit the Harris Theater's website.
