DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -

Before he became the special agent in charge of Detroit's FBI field office Paul Abbate had never been to Detroit; he'd never even been to Michigan. But since his time here, he says he's seeing that Detroit is in the midst of an economic resurgence, and that makes targeting corruption more important than ever.

The Connecticut native has worked all over the world investigating everything from white collar crime to counter terrorism, and he's excited to be in Detroit.

"This office is recognized within the FBI as one of the top offices across the board in all the work that we do," Abbate tells Fox 2's Alexis Wiley in a special sit down, one-on-one interview.

The office helped in the case against former mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, but targets more than public corruption. For example, cracking down on neighborhood violence has become a huge focus.
