Agency Names Schwarzenegger Honorary Ranger

Posted: Updated:

WASHINGTON (Fox 11/AP) - The U.S. Forest Service is naming Arnold Schwarzenegger an honorary forest ranger.

The actor and former California governor is being recognized for signing global warming legislation in 2006, and approving vehicle fuel economy standards that have been adopted nationally. He joins actress Betty White and Rolling Stones keyboardist Chuck Leavell as honorary rangers.

Schwarzenegger said he has witnessed firsthand the courage, passion and selflessness of rangers through coordinated efforts to tame devastating fires in California. He says, "to be one of the rangers really touches my heart."

Since leaving office in 2011, Schwarzenegger co-founded the R20 initiative, which works to reduce energy consumption, improve public health and support local economies. The Schwarzenegger Institute for State and Global Policy was also launched in 2012 by the University of Southern California.
