65 Shots Fired During 3 North Philly Shootings

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

Police are investigating a number of shootings, that happened within hours of each other during a violent night in North Philadelphia.

The first happened around 5 p.m. Monday inside "The Supermarket" neighborhood store on the 1900 block of West Susquehanna Avenue.

There were about a dozen shoppers inside when police say a gunman walked in and unloaded 14 rounds.

The man was killed, shot at point-blank range.

Then, another shooting about two-and-a-half hours later. This one, just blocks away, was at the 2500 block of North 17th Street.

Police say they heard gunfire and found 21 shell casings on the street.

Someone drove the victim to Temple University Hospital before police got to the scene. He's in stable condition.

And police found a third shooting scene at 12th and Dauphin streets last night.

They say they found at least 30 shell casings from two separate guns but no victim.

Police are treating the shootings as isolated incidents, but they're investigating to see if they are related.

FOX 29's Dawn Timmeney had more details in this video report Tuesday morning.

Polluted Gowanus Canal doesn't scare away neighborhood development

Every day, those who live and work in the Gowanus section of Brooklyn drive and bike and walk across their canal, growing a little more accustomed to but no less disgusted by its scent and appearance. Once the busiest canal in the United States, the Gowanus now bears the distinction as perhaps the most polluted body of water in the nation. No one knows exactly how polluted because few have summoned enough courage to dive into its murky depths to investigate.
