Winning Pure Michigan ice cream flavor hitting store shelves

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -

After more than 7,000 entries, Linda Stewart's Double Berry Pie flavor was picked as the official Pure Michigan ice cream flavor. Hudsonville Ice Cream sponsored the contest. The company says the flavor will be on store shelves any day now.

Stewart, the Taylor, MI resident won the chance to throw out the 1st pitch at a Detroit Tigers game, three nights at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, and four cartons of Hudsonville Ice Cream per month for one year.

    A New Jersey school and several homes were evacuated Thursday afternoon because of a large brush fire that was being fanned by winds.Beachwood Intermediate South School was closed just after 12:30 p.m. Parents were told not to report to the school. The Ocean County Sheriff's Dept. said that all children were going to be safely evacuated to another location.

    Two endangered gorillas born at the Bronx Zoo in March and April are now making appearances at the zoo's famous Congo Gorilla Forest exhibit, according to the Wildlife Conservation Society. The baby western lowland gorillas are the 14th and 15th gorillas born at the exhibit since it opened in 1999. The Bronx Zoo has had 50 gorilla births since 1972. The gender of the newborns is unknown for now, WCS said.
