PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -

It was only a drill, but an emergency response exercise held in a Peachtree City middle school on Friday morning looked more like reality.  Authorities practiced for an emergency situation they hope never to face, and FOX 5 was there.

Officers from both the Peachtree City Police Department, Fayetteville Police Department, Fayetteville Sheriff's Office and crews from the Fayetteville County Fire Department joined educators for an emergency response exercise at Booth Middle School.

The goal of the drill was to give authorities and administrators a chance to practice reuniting students with their families after a shooting incident, or in this case, an explosive device being found in a school.

Students hid in dark, licked classrooms until they were evacuated by a SWAT team.  The classes participating were then bussed to a secure location, where officials practiced signing them out to their parents.

The GBI bomb squad's robot moved into the school to retrieve the device, and SWAT medics practiced evacuating and treating students who were made up with makeup to appear injured.

FOX 5 was the only station allowed inside while the exercise was underway.
