Rogers was drafted by the Lions in the first round of the 1987 draft.

In his second season with the team he was involved in a car crash in Pontiac that killed three local teenagers. Rogers was drunk behind the wheel and served time in prison, convicted of negligent homicide.

After serving prison time he then went to play two more NFL seasons with Buffalo and Tampa Bay.

He continued to struggle with legal issues and was charged with five more DUIs over the years, for a total of six. Earlier this month he was also charged with domestic violence in the state of Washington, where he lived.

He was 49 years old.
