Super Bowl 48

Host Committee updates businesses on preparations

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Once a far-off dream, Super Bowl 48 is now a fast-approaching reality.

Members of the New York-New Jersey Super Bowl Host Committee -- President Al Kelly; the owner of the Jets, Woody Johnson; and the co-owner of the Giants, Jonathan Tisch -- updated business leaders on the work it has done and the work left to do.

Case in point: electricity. You might remember the 34-minute power outage at the last super bowl. Kelly and his team want to avoid that this year, so they tested the power infrastructure at the Meadowlands complex.

Super Bowl 48, which is expected to generate between $500 million and $600 million, is unprecedented because it's the first one hosted by two teams and two states. And it's the first one to be played outdoors in cold weather.

Kelly called our region the "everything capital of the world" and said it's about time the Super Bowl came here.

Success for the Jets and Giants will be measured by whether they make it to the Super Bowl. Their struggles aside, the Giants and Jets want to be both hosts and participants.
